Fluopyram is a succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI) fungicide discovered, developed and produced by Bayer. Product features and application development
Fluopyram is a broad-spectrum systemic fungicide with protective and therapeutic effects. It has a wide range of applications and can be used as a foliar treatment, a seed treatment, or a soil treatment. As a fungicide, it can be used to effectively control gray mold, powdery mildew, sclerotinia, brown rot, banana leaf spot, etc. on more than 70 crops including grapes, potatoes, pome fruits, vegetables, and field crops. In addition to preventing and controlling fungal diseases of crops, fluopyram has also been developed by Bayer as an excellent nematicide, which is used in economic crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and bananas to control various nematodes such as root-knot nematodes, root-rot nematodes, and stem nematodes. It is different from other types of nematicides, which remain on the soil surface or are removed from the rhizosphere soil layer with water. Instead, it can be slowly and evenly distributed in the rhizosphere soil layer, promoting the continued healthy growth of the root system. The effective period for controlling nematodes can be up to about 30 days.
Fluopyram has excellent efficacy at low doses when used alone or in combination with other fungicides. With its excellent physical and chemical properties, fluopyram has been developed into a variety of formulations, such as SC, SE, EC, and FS. Fluopyram is also used as a resistance management tool and is the core ingredient of Bayer's "Luna" family of fungicides. It is combined with Prothioconazole, Trifloxystrobin, and Tebuconazole to develop the "Luna" series of formulations, which greatly enhances Bayer's position in the fungicide market and becomes a new star in the field of high-end fungicides. Fluopyram is also combined with imidacloprid as a soil treatment agent to extend its unique performance as a nematicide.

The global sales of fluopyram were US$13 million in 2012, and quickly exceeded US$100 million in 2014 to US$145 million. It fluctuated in the following years and reached US$189 million in 2021. The compound annual growth rate of global sales from 2012 to 2021 was 35%. It quickly rose to become the world's leading fungicide within 10 years of its launch.
