A new type of special acaricide - Cyflumetofen.

Cyflumetofen is a new type of acyl acetonitrile acaricide developed by Otsuka Chemical Co., Ltd. It was first approved for registration and sale in Japan in 2007, and its patent protection period expired in August 2021. In the past two years, the popularity of cyflumetofen has only increased in the new registration documents for acaricide products. Many companies have already made plans and registered. It is believed that cyflumetofen will definitely stand out in this wave and set off a wave of heat again.

Cyflumetofen is mainly used for the control of pest mites on fruit trees, vegetables, tea trees, flowers and other crops. Since it has no cross-resistance with existing acaricide products, the control effect of antagonistic pest mites is particularly significant.

I. Mechanism of action of cyflumetofen

Cyflumetofen is a non-systemic acaricide, and its main mode of action is contact killing. After it enters the body of mites through contact, it can metabolize in the body of mites to produce a highly active substance AB-1. This substance can immediately inhibit the respiration of the mites' mitochondrial complex II. The test results show that AB-1 has a strong inhibitory effect on the mitochondrial complex II of two-spotted spider mites, and its LC50 is 6.55nm. As cyflumetofen is continuously metabolized into AB-1 in the body of mites, the concentration of AB-1 continues to rise, and the respiration of mites is increasingly inhibited. Finally, the control effect is achieved. It can be seen that the main mechanism of action of cyflumetofen is to inhibit the mitochondrial respiration of mites.

II. Features of Cyflumetofen

(1) Safe and broad spectrum: It can be widely used in crops such as citrus, cotton, winter jujube, apple, vegetables, tea trees, and flowers to control various pest mites such as Panonychus mites, Panonychus apple, Tetranychus cinnabarinus, and Tetranychus urticae; and it has little negative impact on non-target organisms such as mammals, aquatic organisms, beneficial organisms, natural enemies, and predatory mites.

(2) Comprehensive coverage: It can cover all reproductive forms of mites, and has control effects on eggs, larvae, nymphs, and adult mites, and its control effect on eggs and larvae is more prominent.

(3) Fast and lasting effect: It takes effect quickly on active mites, stops feeding in 4 hours, paralyzes them in 12 hours, and reaches the peak of dead mites in 24-48 hours; it has a long lasting effect when used at the recommended dose, and can control for a long period of time with one application.

(4) No cross-resistance: Due to its unique mechanism of action, it has no cross-resistance with existing miticides and is not easy to develop drug resistance.

(5) Rapid metabolism and decomposition: It can be rapidly metabolized and decomposed in soil and water, is safe for crops, and no phytotoxicity has been found under conventional dosages.

(6) Synergistic effect of mixing: Cyflumetofen can be combined with miticides such as bifenazate, spirodiclofen, avermectin, spirotetramat, and etoxazole, and the synergistic effect is very obvious, which not only delays the drug resistance of mites, but also improves the control effect.

III. Registration status of Cyflumetofen in China

As of now, there are 5 registered of Cyflumetofen TC

6 registered of single formulation

16 registered of mixed formulation.

It is believed that there will be a surge in Cyflumetofen certificates in the near future.
